Hitachi Unveils EMIEW 2

EMIEW 2EMIEW 2 (Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Workmate) from Hitachi made its debut this week. This robot uses a gyrosensor to maintain its balance and can go for about an hour on its lithium ion batteries before needing a recharge.

The debut was not without a hitch. The robot is not completely autonomous and was being controlled over the internet through its website. The website took too many hits, thus disrupting communication with the robot and causing the it to crash into a desk.

EMIEW 2 is shown here kneeling, where it uses 4 wheels for more stability, but is also able to stand up on two wheels. It is also able to navigate and avoid people.
